During film class, we got the chance to see this amazing movie directed by Steven Spielberg. Based on the Holocaust and the atrocities that happened during that time, the movie is able to capture the viewer and create such an effect that it would be impossible to forget it.
The movie is in black and white, although it was made in the 1990's. Director Spielberg wanted to keep it real, as it would have looked during that time. During the production, the wardrobe department had the command of not using green clothes or materials, because it didn't look good in the grey scale.
The film has amazing lighting effects, used to show the shots of the guns and at the same time the shadows of the Nazis that emanate from them.
The locations were in Poland, the ones that were on the outside, in front of the actual concentration camp (because Spielberg was prohibited to enter in it). Because of this they had to built in sets how the concentration camps would have looked like.
Talking about the music, there was the instrumental, which was created by John Williams, along with the actual audio of the movie, both sounding in a perfect harmony. The sound of shots were very sincronized, almost making it too believable.
As the special effects used, there was the use of blood in the people that were killed by the nazis, making a very good job with it. The smoke from the guns and the blood that emanated from the holes of the Jews was incredibly done.
The shots used were a lot: Wide Shot, Location Shot, Distortion, Shine to White, Medium Shot, Close Up, Extreme Close Up, Over the Shoulder, Bird Eye's View, High Shot, Low Shot, Mirror Shot, Cut, Cut Away.
Because of the strong subject of film and the showing of nude scenes, the movie was rated R(Spielberg's first R rated film)
In cost, the movie was one of the most expensive ones made in Black and White, being actually the second one.
There were many problems i finding a director, because they wanted a Jew one to direct it. A lot refused because they felt uncapable and not ready yet to make a film about the atrocities that some of them had to live.
As the choosing of the actors, the director wanted to choose people who weren't so famous, so big names wouldn't destroy the idea and quality of the story.
Finally, I definitley reccomend this movie, because it shows the viewers in the flesh of how terrible and horrible the Holocaust was. A memorable and unforgetable film.
I really love this movie. Something amazing about it, is how the director put the girl with dress red and with this he made a change in the mind of the man and he started to help the others. The shots are very well used.

The special effects that they used are just amazing, in this movie also there is symbolism and they use a lent to make it black&white movie. There are different shots and angles that makes the story even more fantastic. The sad part is that, this is actually a real story and with the great editors and director's intervetion we see how Jews people suffered during WWII
